Medical & Life Science

Applying the best tools to your challenges

Below is a small selection of medical & life science services and facilities that OUC can provide through the University of Oxford.

GMP manufacturing facility

The University of Oxford’s Clinical BioManufacturing Facility (CBF) holds a Manufacturing Authorisation (MA) from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). This permits it to manufacture many biologics including the more complex Advanced Therapy Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) for use in early phase clinical trials. The CBF has over 13 years experience in producing biological IMPs to EU GMP requirements. It was the first academic group to hold an MHRA manufacturing authorisation for IMPs and the unit currently has 3 Qualified Persons.

Central Proteomics Facility

The Central Proteomics Facility (CPF) provides proteomics and mass spectrometry expertise and services to academic and commercial clients. The facility has extensive experience in protein identification, protein-protein interaction analysis, protein quantitation (using  SILAC, iTRAQ and label free approaches), protein post-translational modification characterization (phosphorylation, methylation, ubiquitination etc) and biomarker identification.  Examples of recent applications include: characterization of  therapeutic antibody targets;  characterization of the effects of small molecule inhibitors on protein expression and phosphorylation dynamics; identification of protein binding partners and the identification of macrophage cell-surface markers.

Oxford Biomedical Imaging Network

The Oxford Biomedical Imaging Network is a gateway to the University of Oxford’s imaging community. It provides access to a huge range of imaging expertise, from cellular microscopy to human whole body imaging. Techniques covered by the network include optical microscopy, nuclear medicine imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound. The network has particular expertise in the following disease areas: oncology, clinical neuroscience, cardiovascular medicine and musculoskeletal.
