TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD

Isis held the 50th Meeting & Dinner of the Oxford Innovation Society in December and Professor David Kerr's excellent talk on personalised cancer treatment is available below.

The year ending March 2007 has been another strong year for Isis, with sales turnover exceeding £3m, compared to £2.9m in 2006. Our 2007 Annual Report will be available later in the year.

Isis Enterprise has completed its second full year, doubling its turnover, working with many clients, internationally, to support and advise their technology transfer activities. Please look at the pdf document to the right for further information.

Spin-Out News

We are pleased to announce our latest new spin-out company based on Oxford University research:

Eykona Technologies Ltd
Eykona Technologies Ltd was spun-out in February 2007. The company is based upon technology developed by Professor Ron Daniel and Dr Jamie Patterson, Department of Engineering and delivers a range of portable 3D imaging systems for visual arts and quality control applications.

Cytox Ltd
Cytox Ltd was spun-out in November 2006. The company is commercialising diagnostic and therapeutic inventions made by Dr Zsuzsanna Nagy in the course of her work on the role of the neuronal cell cycle in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease.

Spin-out Portfolio Updates

Prolysis
Prolysis has received one of three inaugural Seeding Drug Discovery awards from the Wellcome Trust for its new antibacterial compounds aimed at tackling life-threatening, drug-resistant infections caused by staphylococci, including MRSA.


New Oxford Technology & Research

Isis commercialises technology and research opportunities from Oxford; these are some current examples:

Deal News: Licensing Parkinson's Disease Health Status Survey PDQ-39
Isis Innovation has recently concluded several licences to use the PDQ-39 questionnaire. This is the most widely used Parkinson's disease specific measure of health status.
Cell Population Array Imager (CPAI )

The CPAI is a specialised simple microscope which measures weak light signals over minutes to hours.
Plant Transformation Technology
Research in Oxford’s Department of Plant Sciences has identified a model system for evaluating plant genes and their function in a high throughput manner.
Novel Approach to Cancer Treatment
Work in the Cancer Research UK Laboratories at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, Oxford, has uncovered an exciting new anti-cancer approach that has potential as a stand-alone therapy, and as a means of enhancing sensitivity to conventional anti-cancer treatments.

Meet Isis One of the strengths of Isis project groups is that the staff have experience of both the worlds of academia and industry. Learn >Who's Who at Isis, for example: Fiona Begg, Project Manager, Life Science Group Fiona studied medical microbiology at Edinburgh University following a year working in pharmaceutical microbiology. Her PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology (molecular pharmacology of phosphodiesterases) was completed at Glasgow University on a BBSRC CASE studentship. This was sponsored by AstraZeneca and the first year of study was completed at their research facility in Loughborough. After a year in a business development role she spent 3.5 years with Invitrogen Ltd as a technical adviser and then in their sales team. Fiona joined Isis in 2005.
