OPEN INNOVATION IN A GLOBALISED WORLD

Isis Innovation was recently asked to share its expertise and experience in open innovation at the 7th INNO-Views Policy Workshop on “Open Innovation in a Globalised World” in Brussels on 26-27 February 2009, organised by the INNO-Views project, part of PRO INNO Europe. Other speakers came from across the EU and included representatives from outstanding Universities, multinational companies, research labs and government agencies.

Isis Innovation was invited to present on its wide-ranging experience in promoting innovation and technology commercialisation from the world-class research environment at the University of Oxford.

According to Terry Pollard of Isis Enterprise: "our activities were compared with those of others involved in open innovation and many common themes were identified. Through experience, Isis Innovation has identified that the need to manage intellectual property, identify commercial opportunities, and understand the motivations of all parties involved in bringing new technologies and products to market are essential."

Open Innovation will have a vital role in the future for ensuring the competitiveness of European businesses in an increasingly global environment. Making best use of the world-class science and engineering that takes place in research institutions across all member states will form an essential aspect.

Organisations such as Isis Innovation have extensive experience and expertise in commercialising early stage technologies from a research environment. By combining this experience with a commercial understanding of the needs of customers a virtuous circle can be created. This will accelerate the introduction of new products and services both bringing benefits to society and promoting economic growth across the EU.
