Data Federation - Accessing Your Information - Isis Project No 3974
A technology for accessing information across databases and information sources of different types and structures, new and old, and providing the required information in a useful way.
Marketing Opportunity
This technology is suitable for any organisation which needs to access information from a variety of sources, or which provides information or data solutions to other organisations.
The Oxford Invention
The technology allows building of applications that access data and systems, regardless of their age, structure or operating system. Many different systems can be accessed by one application, allowing the technology to view multiple data sources, or share information across many locations.
For example consider two businesses that have merged. Senior management are working with two financial systems, and cannot see one unified view. It will take considerable time to move both businesses onto a single financial system. In the meantime they are trying to manipulate the data using complex spreadsheets which are not updated directly from the ‘live’ data. The Oxford technology would enable rapid creation of an application which could provide a single view of the financial data from both organisations.
In another example, several organisations using different systems need to share images and data securely across multiple locations. Using the Oxford technology, they create an application that can allow access to and manipulation of, only the data in the systems which needs to be shared, and which can be accessed within any of the partner organisations by authorised users.
