information for researchers
Why distribute my reagents via a company?
Each time you receive a request for a material that you have created in connection with a publication you may have to spend a few days preparing it to be sent out, complete necessary documentation and package it ready for transportation. Many companies already have the resources and infrastructure to prepare materials, hold and maintain stocks and send items out on demand via well-established distribution networks. This represents a great time saving for researchers and makes the reagents much more widely available due to a company's marketing capacities.
How do I make my reagents available?
We have forms available listing all the information that Isis needs to know in order to start commercialisation of materials. This includes technical data such as culture conditions for cell lines. We have different forms available for different types of materials. Please contact reagents@isis.ox.ac.uk for the relevant forms (see details below).
What items can be sold?
Items such as antibodies, enzymes, cell lines and plasmids or vectors containing certain clones or promoters are often requested from researchers. We also market questionnaires that can be used to assess healthcare outcomes in clinical trials. Their value depends on the area of research they are connected to and the current level of interest in that area. They may also be more valuable if they are difficult to make or hard to find. It most certainly helps if you have data to show that the reagent functions as intended. If you are unsure as to whether you have a material that could be sold as a research reagent or tool please email us as we are always happy to discuss such questions with you.
