Pharmaceutical industry

Isis Outcomes condition-specific PROs are used throughout Phases II & III of drug development programs to demonstrate efficacy of the drug. For example the PDQ, ALSAQ and EHP PROs have been adopted by pharmaceutical companies as the PROs of choice for Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease and Endometriosis respectively.

Healthcare providers

Isis Outcomes provides licences for healthcare delivery assessment by PRO’s, including clinic-centred licences through to organisation-wide licences. The majority of these licences are for our orthopaedic PROs. Examples include:

  • Public Healthcare delivery assessment by the NHS as part of the National PROMs program that aims to measure and improve the quality of care in the NHS.
  • Private Healthcare providers to assess quality of care from the patient's perspective.

The key benefits of using PROs in a healthcare environment are to:

  • Inform patient feedback to ensure that hospitals are truly focused on patient care
  • Provide an early warning governance tool to assist clinical team follow up
  • Identify poorly performing therapies and how improvements could be made
  • Compare results from individual surgeons, or your organisation's performance against other similar individuals/groups
  • Inform cost benefit analysis of existing and new interventions
  • Add data to clinical performance for the purposes of appraisal
  • Demonstrate quality and impact of healthcare spend to commissioners

Lord Darzi, former UK Health minister, said in a statement:

"While a surgeon may judge a hip replacement successful because the procedure has been performed perfectly on the day, the patient will rightly disagree if they are still in pain and continue to have a poor quality of life six months down the line. The beauty of PROMs is that it measures the success of operations as reported by patients themselves.”

Implant/orthoses manufacturers

Isis Outcomes is experiencing growing interest in the use of our orthopaedic PROs from companies involved in the provision of orthoses or joint implants where the Oxford joint-specific PROs are used to assess the benefits of their products on patients.

Academic researchers

Isis Outcomes is pleased to interact with academic researchers to provide rights (under licence) to our portfolio of PROs. This activity supports the continued evaluation and assessment of our PROs. Isis Outcomes operates a policy of providing our PROs free of charge for academic research use, where the use is strictly non-commercial.
