Technology Transfer from the University of Oxford

Oxford Immunotec Ltd

www.oxfordimmunotec.com

Oxford Immunotec develops test kits for diagnosing and monitoring disease, based on a revolutionary T-cell assay system which provides a simple and extremely accurate way of studying the response of an individual's cellular immune response to an infection. Determining if and how an individual's cellular immune system is responding to an infection can tell us if a person is infected and whether they are effectively fighting the infection. In this way, this powerful technique can be used not only for diagnosis, but also for prognosis and monitoring of infections. The first use of this platform technology, which has already been extensively validated, is in identifying individuals infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the organism which gives rise to Tuberculosis (TB). The X-Spet TB test offers unique benefits over existing approaches and has the potential to be used in many areas of TB management including the screening of children, healthcare workers, immigrants, 'contacts' of infectious source cases and in the monitoring of treatment.
